All Jacks ‘R’ Better quilts are over stuffed by at least 25%. We do not recommend additional over stuffing.
Compression Sack: A lot of folks no longer use compressions sacks and instead keep their quilts dry inside a lawn contractor bag or trash compactor liner. We do not want anyone to have to pay for something they do not want so now we offer them separately. For 0 degree quilts we recommend a large size compression sack.
Activ-dri down™ – Activ-dri™ is a hydrophobic down treatment that keeps the down drier, while having no adverse effects on loft, fill power, or warmth retention. Activ-dri down is still down insulation and should be protected from direct exposure to moisture. All types of insulation, whether down or synthetic, will degrade in insulation capability if wetted. This down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard.
Jacks ‘R’ Better has designed a unique hammock underquilt with a dual differential cut, body contoured design and constant height radial baffles to achieve a 0° capability. These are the most capable and warmest commercially available hammock underquilts.

Love the design of this! Dutch and JRB rock! No annoying shifting of underquilt since it’s zipped on. Easy to attach or remove, works great with all my other chameleon tops.

I preordered the 20 degree under quilt in Coyote Brown to match my hammock (I like disappearing in the woods in my back yard). I was finally able to get out and use it the past two nights.
Zipping it on was simple. I just unzipped my bug net on one side, zipped on the under quilt, then zipped on the bug net. Repeat the procedure on the other side, and it’s done! The zipper runs the full length of the hammock, so there’s a stretch of empty zipper at either end, since the under quilt only needs to be in the middle. Great system! There is a string (not shock cord) with a cord lock on both sides to pull each end of the under quilt tight up to the hammock to prevent drafts. It works well, I like that it is string that won’t wear out like shock cord will, though I’m considering running a piece of shock cord through and trying that to see if it works better, worse or the same.
I slept out one night with a predicted 50 degrees F low. I had just a wool blanket over me and was a little chilly because just the wool blanket was not enough. The next night was a low of 60 degrees F, I had my 30 year old sleeping bag (was rated at 20 or 30 degrees F 30 years ago, but is now only good for about 50 degrees F) as my blanket and I was snug as a bug in a rug! The night I was chilly was not the fault of the under quilt, which performed admirably; it was because I didn’t have enough over quilt! From underneath, I was plenty warm. I’m looking forward to getting out on the trail with my son’s Scout troop and giving this (along with the hammock) some good use. That said, during the warmer months, I’m also planning to spend one to two nights a week sleeping out in between two perfect trees in my back yard!
I’d like to see a recommendation of what double ended stuff sack to purchase with the under quilt as the one that came with my hammock is not large enough for both.

Tried out my new under-quilt this past weekend and couldn’t be happier with the results! Slept most the night with out my top quilt, but got a little chilly later on and covered up! Will defiantly be getting the warmer one for those colder nights! No fuss with the zip up and the open ends for the amount of air flow I wanted. Great stuff!

I picked up a 20 zip on under quilt and absolutely love it. I do feel that the Anaconda bag is vital to this setup as I wouldn’t want to zip on/off the UQ in the field (I can be clumsy and the ground could be wet). In any case, the zip on removes all the annoying fidgeting. You just cinch the two ends after deploying your hammock and you’re done. I’m really happy with this.
/Update
I purchased 0 degree UQ in addition to my previous UQ so I get to update my review. I had a beautiful new 0 degree UQ from HG that was awesome.. but that’s how much I love having a zip on UQ. It just works so good I love it. Do you need a zip on UQ? No of course not, but it brings me happiness.

Ordered a 0 degree and received it in 4 weeks, not bad since the website said 5-6 weeks. Had an issue with the cinch cords being absent, but Dutchware and Jacks were on it immediately and sent me the cords and a tool to thread them in (thank you!). Impressive customer care. The quilt itself is amazing. The zippers really help with keeeping everything in place, and not having a tangle of cords when you pack up. And you don’t have to worry about air gaps. The zipper has another zipper on the side, so you can keep stacking things on there like a bug net or top cover. The loft is on par with my other 0 degree bags and quilts, but I have not tried it yet. The size and loft are very generous. Overall quality of construction is very high, as good as anything you’ll find in the high-end market. The baffles run side-to-side, versus the more common head-to-toe direction, but the down manages to stay high enough to cover you. It looks a bit odd at first, the down looks like it will all fall down to the bottom, but it works well. It might even be better than the the longways direction. Definitely like it and would recommend it.

I didn’t think you could improve on the Chameleon Hammock, but I received the new zip on under quilt a few weeks ago and have had a chance to trial it, what a brilliant bit of kit. I’ve had normal design under quilts before, but have always struggled with keeping them in place and so had cold spots but with the zip on design it stays in place all the time, a truly excellent bit of kit and excellent design

There seems to be a rabbit hole when it comes to hammocks (at least for me there is). You buy a hammock but then find that it doesn’t have the option that you just learned about so you buy another hammock that does offer that option but it’s just not quite “there yet” so the search continues. You buy underquilts but find there’s a learning curve involved so you buy a hammock with an attached underquilt but that one doesn’t have the option of a winter cover. You decide to try using a pad in your hammock so you invest in a double layer hammock. Now, you’ve got 4 or 5 different hammocks, each with different options… if someone would just make a hammock that had everything a person could possibly want! Well, Dutchware finally did for their Chameleon and I am in love! Save yourself a ton of money and just go with a Chameleon and a zip in underquilt made by Jacks R Better.

I sleep with my knee out an a strange angle. This usually results in a lot of my knee being exposed and left to get cold. I have spent the money on a custom UQ that is extra wide which will allow for my to sleep like this, but it was CRAZY expensive and being that I could only afford one, I went a temp rating for the coldest nights and I suffer through warm to cool nights. That was about 15 years ago. Flash forward to this year. With this solution there is no moving, no slipping, and no worries about my knee being left unprotected from the underside. The quilt is always right where I want it. BRILLIANT!

I’m new to backpacking and my friend is guiding methrough my gear purchases. I borrowed his zip-on UQ for my chameleon and slept toasty cozy as my wife would say. I had it pre-zipped and ready to go and it deployed easily. I was only in 47F weather but was very comfortable with my top quilt. I slept only in boxers and a tee shirt with no issues. I don’t plan to challenge the temp rating past 20-25F, so I can’t comment on that, only on its quality and ease of use. After this trip, I ended up buying my own in blue. One thing I need to remember to do is fluff the down when setting it up to get equal distribution. But in the 40’s, that wasn’t really an issue. I’m very happy with this purchase and will soon by the protective cover to keep this in good condition.
