Substrate Camouflage is a representation of baseline colors, textures, and natural, organic shapes found within an environment to create micro and macro patterns that visually disrupt and break up the outline of the user.  Whatever the environment, terrain, or season, there is a Substrate pattern to meet your needs and exceed your expectations regarding effective visual camouflage.

Description

Substrate Camouflage was created by Matthew Dermody after he wrote two books about camouflage, Hidden Success:  A Comprehensive Guide to Ghillie Suit Construction and Appear to Vanish:  Concepts of Effective Camouflage and Concealment.  Each of the concepts addressed in the latter book start with the letter “S”, and following that model, every pattern within the Substrate catalog (yes, every single one!), starts with the letter “S”.

The name Substrate was chosen because it means a layer or layers underneath.  This is how all the Substrate camo patterns were created.  We used multiple research photographs and images that were digitally manipulated, recolored, stacked, and set at varying levels of transparency/opacity to create each Substrate pattern.

Advancements in dye sublimation and digital printing have allowed Substrate Camouflage to far exceed the standard 4, 6, and 8-color camouflage patterns.  As textile print technology advances, integration into military applications will make Substrate Camouflage the standard by which all other camo patterns are compared, including NIR (Near Infrared) and IRR (Infrared Reflectance) compliance.

SNIPER SERIES

The Sniper Series patterns are a hybrid combination of five Substrate patterns morphed together to create multi-terrain patterns and colorways that are much more difficult to identify than standard camo patterns.

The SUBSTRATE Sepia pattern is the multi-terrain, multi-seasonal brown colorway of the Shroud pattern.

The SUBSTRATE Sniper pattern is richer brown palette compared to the Sepia pattern that simulates a wetter, dead foliage environment.

SUBSTRATE Shift is a transitional pattern between the brown dominant Sepia pattern and slightly greener Shroud pattern.  The Shift pattern will be the primary multi-terrain pattern that will excel in multiple environments.

SIERRA SERIES

SUBSTRATE Shadowbark is treebark-inspired pattern containing both brown and green colorations with horizontal and vertical orientations, without the overused leaf elements.

SUBSTRATE Spoor is a mix of earth tones found in late autumnal ground cover, undergrowth, and fallen leaves with darker, contrasting tones for the illusion of depth.

SUBSTRATE Stealth is a hybrid blend of two Soldier Series patterns, Sedona and Saigon, with micro patterns of the Sierra and Surface patterns to create a low-contrast, multi-terrain pattern.

SHADOW SERIES

SUBSTRATE Spec-Op is a subdued low-light version of the pattern used for the Substrate Street Series.

SUBSTRATE Skirmish is non-traditional urban-inspired pattern that utilizes more browns and hints of man-made structures than other urban camo patterns.  The colorway allows more flexibility when transitioning from differing population densities and city outskirts.

SCUBA SERIES

SUBSTRATE Shipwreck blends rich blues and greens with gray and black to create a striking nautical-themed camo for underwater operations and marine recreation.

STALKER SERIES

The Stalker Series provides more mobility and static options compared to other high-definition camo patterns because they rely less on specific tree species and leaves that may not be present in your area or behave according to current weather conditions.  By using abstract representations of smaller tree limbs, it allows for greater stalking mobility and camouflage through saplings or setting up in fallen timber.

SUBSTRATE Stalker uses an abstract, non-specific branch and limb overlay over a mottled background of various browns, grays, and olive green.

SUBSTRATE Savannah Stalker uses the branch and limb overlay from the original Stalker pattern over the Scrubgrass pattern.

SUBSTRATE Skyline Stalker uses the Stalker pattern’s branch and limb overlay over a light gray gradient to simulate overcast conditions seen through a leafless canopy at treestand height.

SUBSTRATE Snow Stalker uses a white background under the grayscale branch and limb overlay to create a winter pattern that works in both stalking and static hunting methods.

SUBSTRATE Spring Stalker adds a significant amount of green to mimic new growth, making the pattern quite effect in late Spring and early Summer.

SUBSTRATE September Stalker pays homage to a classic hunting pattern colorway that is highly effective once the leaves turn and begin falling in Autumn.

SUBSTRATE Shadowbark Seasonal
removes the olive green overlay found in the original Shadowbark pattern and replaces it with a medium gray for late-season, overcast conditions.

SOLDIER SERIES

SUBSTRATE Stuttgart uses the colorway of the famous German Flecktarn pattern, combined with SUBSTRATE design elements to create a new interpretation of a classic military pattern.

SUBSTRATE Springfield features a colorway that matches the current AMCU (Australian Multi-Cam Uniform).

SUBSTRATE Spokane is the classic colorway of the popular M81 Woodland camo pattern that adds transitional gradients and more organic, randomized design elements.

SUBSTRATE Scout Sniper incorporates the most common colors found on the forest floor while adding three-dimensional shadow effects to certain layers of the design elements.

    Logo printed on the fabric

The camo pattern itself is great, but I wasn’t expecting the Substrate logo to be printed on the fabric every couple of feet. It’s very visible on the Snow Spruce pattern.
