Description

This is my version of a summer sock. It is made from ARGON 90 and Nanoseeum so it is breathable but has a quality DWR for quilt protection.  I have 11 foot and 10 foot versions. It is designed to work with a hammock with a ridgeline.  Tapered on one end and drawstring on the other. The Summer sock has a panel nanoseeum the full length of the sock and can be turned to vary the amount of venting.  This will come in a medium mesh stuff sack.  Comes in black and of course it is made in the USA.

Summer Sock Solved my Backpacking Problems

    James Hulin (verified owner)

I had a conflict in simultaneously meeting 4 criteria for backpacking: low weight for backpacking, no chemical treatment for bugs (permetherine), use of under/top quilts when cold, no bug bights through hammock in summer–in my area only a double hammock will stop bights with a regular bug net since bug nets touch sides of hammock (elbows, feet, etc exposed). Then I discovered the summer sock and all my problems were solved: It is a lightweight bug net, the argon bottom acts as very lightweight “second layer” to prevent bug bights such that I can now use a lightweight single layer hammock versus heavier double-layer to stop bug bights and all without chemical treatment. It has the added bonus then when a strong breeze blows and/or it is cold (no mosquitoes around), I can roll it over to block wind and it will fit over my under-quilt. What a fabulous product…just what I have been looking for. Few products meet such a wide range of needs and this product does it with top quality! Cheers to Dutch

    I know, I know... it’s kinda expensive.

I effed around and tried a cheap bugnet, and it would definitely work… but that summer sock tho. I’m here to say: this is the right choice, boys and girls. The quality is a 10, the customer service is a 10, the shipping time is a 10. A product like this shows just how much DutchWare puts into innovation and quality. It’s smart, it’s effective, and it’s worth every penny. This place is the kind of company you wish every company was like: completely customer focused.

    SUMMER SOCK

I really do not know how iv’e overlooked this amazing piece of gear! Iv’e went bonkers with modular hammock set ups & i really missed the simplicity of a netless hammock. This sweet piece of gear plays a couple of important roles & advantages .

Half of the sock is made with argon 90 , the same material as the winter sock & the other half bugnet. Yes you take more pack weight with this system but its not with any regrets. Rather than deciding what piece to bring on a modular setup , its all here for you ..all the time.

Yesterday i camped & in the day it was a breezy 60 degrees, by night it dipped into the high 30s. No getting out to unzip a net to replace with a top cover…just steer the summer sock as a lean to , top cover or net option. Amazing functional piece of gear!

The wide mouth opening is on one end so you can easily manage & set up under quilt & the side zip makes entrance & exit a breeze! Great thing about this is there is NO proprietary top cover or bugnet, this will fit over any of your favorite 10′-11′ gathered end hammocks for winter or summer.

    Summer sock, you complete me!

    chasts (verified owner)

For all curious about the length; I reached out to Dutch and team asking if I needed 10′ or 11′ summer sock for my 11′ hammock since ridge line reduces length to 9ish feet when hung. Response was definitely 11′ sock and that’s what I have and it is AMAZING!!!

The usefulness and quality over a generic bug net is unquestionable. I won’t belabor all the details go check out videos. It is exactly as described. I have the “with zipper” flavor and I find I use both zipper and gathered end openings. I leave mine on and store with my hammock. So when I want it out of the way and don’t want to take my hammock down I just loosen gathered end and push out of the way, done! I also find that I use the bottom more than I thought I would. From using it as a sunscreen when I don’t want to put up a tarp, to windscreen, to water repellant for underquilt, to a place to put light things I don’t want on the ground such as shoes or my jacket or pillow when not in use.

This is the ultimate accessory for a netless hammock. So many options, uses and great quality from Dutch and crew!

    Better than a bug net!

    Brian Marcin (verified owner)

Awesome piece of gear, I’m loving this bug net with quilt protection and some extra warmth if needed. It is so versatile and lightweight, such a good product. I’m quickly becoming a Dutch nerd and find myself looking through the items on the site just for the enjoyment of it. Can’t decide what I like more all the cool gear or the stellar service and people at Dutchware. Thank you everybody…at Dutchware!

The Summer Sock is a Fantastic Dual Purpose Net!

    icssshyahoo (verified owner)

I have two hammocks with integrated zip on/off bug nets: a Haven tent hammock and a Pinnacle 360 11′ hammock. For different reasons I don’t like the bug nets on either hammock, and I’ve looked at a lot of stand alone nets to replace either or both of these. I bought the 11 foot summer sock with zipper, primarily to replace the zip-in bug net on the 11′ gathered end hammock, and it is PERFECT. If fits very well, it gives me 360 degree bug protection, the zipper works smoothly, it is plenty big and it is very light weight. The pleasant surprise was that the summer sock also fits my Haven hammock tent perfectly! It slides over the Haven tent hammock when it is fully hung and assembled, and it solves a couple of problems I have with the Haven. The biggest problem I have with the Haven tent hammock is that the width (I have the 24 inch version) is too narrow for me to sleep comfortably on my stomach or sides, since I like to bend me arms and legs so much that they extend beyond the raised sides of the hammock. Because the summer sock hangs from the ridge line, pushing beyond the edges of the tent is not a problem (except for the raised tent edge, which I’ll address below). The sock also solves the other big problem I have with the Haven tent — the comfort of the included structural sleeping pad. To address the comfort issue I added a self inflating foam pad on top. This not only made the bed much more comfortable, it also raised the level of the bed enough that I can comfortable stick my bent leg out the side without hitting the side wall. The down side was that with the foam pad in the tent bed it’s almost impossible to use (zip) the integrated bug net. The summer sock addresses these problems and provides a second layer of bug protection outside the tent material, along with wind and light protection when rotated to the fabric side. When not needed the sock can be slid to the end of the tent. And I swear that the summer sock netting allows for more air flow than the integrated net. The summer sock is a fantastic product! The only caveat I offer is that I don’t know if fit of the summer sock on the Haven hammock tent is affected by the weight of the occupant (I weight about 160).

I got the summer version and find it to be quite well made.

I got the summer version and find it to be quite well made. It fits 72″ wide hammocks just fine and slips on and over with ease. Very breathable, yet it’s nice to be able to twist the bottom towards the wind to create a blast shield. I’ll probably order the winter version once fall comes around.

    I purchased the summer version.

I purchased the summer version. In initial backyard testing I was able to rotate it so the argon solid side was to windward and screen side was to leeward. Perfect to take the bite out of a spring breeze. Also easily fit over my Jarbridge underquilt.

    NO MORE BUGS!

An essential addition to any hammock when camping or hanging out by the water. Without an underquilt, I used the summer sock to keep warm throughout a brisk spring night by simply rotating the net side down. I’ll be picking up the winter version when the weather gets colder.

    Dual Purpose

Very well made and worked much better than I expected. I got this to protect me from the bugs but it turned out to be quite cold on the nights I was hiking so I twisted it around and made myself a hammock/tent and stayed really warm. I recommend this as a dual purpose item.

    Quality product. Easy to use.

First off, DWG website is so attractive, informative and user friendly. A few hrs after I placed order, it was shipped. Got it two days later. What service! Also liked that after I placed order, I was informed I would be notified when shipped. Some websites leave you guessing.
Love the Summer Sock. The materials are flawless and the net especially seems really sturdy. It is very easy to get on the hammock and to use. I have a winter sock but still may buy Dutch’s

Got the summer sock I ordered in Woodland camo with zip for my sea to summit solo.
Fit’s great, it all fit’s into my double ended stuff sack from Dutch without having to take it off.
Next order is the winter sock with zip Woodland camo.
    Thank’s Dutch & your team.

Summer Sock Solves More Problems Than you Think

    James Hulin (verified owner)

Summer sock allows use of single layer hammock without bug bites at elbows and feet where the bug net touches hammock sides since the bottom half of the bug net is a solid fabric. It serves as a water resistant shield on top for heavy dew or a leaking tarp. It can also shield against rain splatter from underneath, it blocks sun for day sleeping, can be turned to block wind from either side, the solid fabric can be on top to make you slightly warmer. the wide opening on one end allows sliding the net back out of the way without having to remove under quilt or other hammock objects (topquilt, pillow, etc). It’s better than an integrated bug net that pulls up hammock sides affecting lay and avoids issue of integrated zippers from opening upon further upon entry and being hard to close. It is lighter weight than a double layer hammock with integrated bug net yet yields the same bug protection. What more could you ask for? It is so much more than just a bug net…it has solved a lot of hammock camping issues with this single low cost, low weight item.
