Grams8 (verified owner) –
In October 2017, I bought the Dark Olive Silnylon (with other DutchWare ‘Make Your Gear’ goodies) to make an 11ft ridgeline tarp with attached doors, similar to the Superfly tarp design. In my MYOG ‘career’ I’ve handled many yards of silnylon from different suppliers and this material is excellent, with an even silicone coating and is true to quoted weight.
The finished tarp has since seen plenty of weather including prolonged, wind-driven rain storms with no misting/leakage. IMO the silnylon is a good balance between weight and strength. For such a large tarp, the material copes well with cross-winds and wet conditions, staying taut with minimal adjustment to the guylines. The Dark Olive silnylon is also a pleasant, muted colour that blends-in really well. The tarp was sewn with Gutermann Tera 60 thread and used DutchWare Gear supplied grosgrain, D-Rings and cordage. It was seam-sealed with clear undiluted flowable windshield silicone sealant. Ridgeline and side panels are cat cut. MYOG saves money but consumes valuable hammock time, so knowing that your project is utilising quality, tried-and-tested materials is a big plus.
Having worked with this silnylon on a large-scale project and after 9 months of use, I have no hesitation in giving it a 5 Star Rating.
This was my first dealing with DutchWare Gear – the customer service and attention to detail is first class.
