  2. Question

    layne_hermansen

How would this perform for a bug bivy compared to noseeum mesh?

Compare breathability, warmth, mosquitoes biting through fabric drapped on skin, condensation, etc

If good answers would consider asking Borah Gear to make me one.

    Thanks

This mesh hammock fabric is much stronger than our other bugnet fabric, but otherwise will perform similar to bugnet fabric.

We suggest Argon fabrics for quilts. Argon 49, Argon 67, or Argon 90 for the inside and Argon 90 for the outside.

We have some rugged waterproof fabrics, but we do not have hammock fabrics designed to withstand dog paws: https://dutchwaregear.com/product-category/myg/fabrics/waterproof/

Durability test on the netless regular cloud71

    colinleath

5 months of daily use. I think i got the seconds 1.1 oz/ sqyd from diy gear supply to last much longer, as in at least 1 year.

If used with an air mattress on the inside, it would probably last much longer.

What i loved about the fabric was being able to see the ground through it .

    I’m now using a Decathlon 1person hammock ( $15 ) and though it’s only 9′ / 275cm, it’s been working well. I’m 6’3” 188lbs

    stretchy!

    Robert Cope

Insanely light, wonderfully transparent, and stretchy!! I knew I liked some stretch in my hammock from a previous UL 1.0 that had always been my most comfy hammock. Just got a netless in the C71 and after 3 nights I have to say this is the most comfy hammock out of the many I’ve tried. The stretchiness does make it a little harder to get out of. My guess is that I’m going to have to watch it closely for stretch marks which doomed said previous 1.0, so I expect the duration of use to be limited. (I’m 190 lbs.)

I love this fabric !! I haven’t been treating it gently and have no snags or tears. The air just passes right through it. So light and so strong… it’s amazing !!! I’m buying more and I’m not even sure what I’m going to do with it.

    Question

    Jonathan Jones

How would you compare the durability of this material to the hexon style fabrics? I see it’s strong from that crazy video, but I’m curious how it holds up to abrasions? Wayward keys falling out of my pocket and ending up under me when laying in a hammock comes to mind. (I know that’s a stretch but it’s the first example I could come up with)

Hexon 1.6 is our most abrasion resistant fabric, but all of our fabrics are lightweight for backpacking purposes. We don’t suggest these fabrics come into contact with any sharp edges like knives, keys, cat and dog paws, thorns, etc…

  16. Question

    layne_hermansen

What degree of practicality does the DWR coating provide if used as a bug bivy? Mist? Light ☔ rain? Brief thunderstorm ⛈️?

    • Dave Gantz

      Dave Gantz

The DWR will help keep the fabric from absorbing moisture. Since it is mesh, it does not provide any waterproof function.
