What Are the Benefits of Using a Backpacking Sit Pad?
Bringing a sit pad for hiking along on your trip can save you loads of discomfort. The folding sit mat provides the back and rear support you desire during snack breaks and at the end of a long day on the trail. Such support keeps you warm, dry, and fresh, reducing the number of aches and pains while adventuring in the backcountry.
With a sit pad, you get a comfortable place to sit no matter where you venture. You won’t have to spend minutes trying to find the right position on a rock or log.
Perhaps best of all, you can use the camping sitting pad in an emergency. It can wrap a wrist, ankle or forearm if someone gets injured. The pad can help stabilize and immobilize the hurt area so you can get out of the woods without further pain or injury.

Nice and lightweight.
Nice and lightweight. Keeps my bum warm and comfortable when sitting on cold hard rocky New England ground. Useful for cold spots in the hammock, although a pain in the butt to keep in place (fell out of the hammock a couple times). Worth the negligible amount of added weight.

Great little pad, and so affordable! This is one sheet of shaped foam that neatly folds into quarters with no cuts in the sheet, impressed how they managed that. On my scale it comes to 29 g (1.0 oz), measures 15.25″ x 11.5″ x 3/8″ (39 x 29 x 1 cm) unfolded, and 7.75″ x 5.75″ x 1″ (20 x 14.5 x 2.5 cm) when folded into quarters. I like it better than my Z Seat, lighter and less bulky, easy to keep handy in my backpack or large waist pack. Useful as a sitting pad during the day, as a doormat outside my tent, and as a bit of extra cushion for my hips under my inflated sleeping pad at night.

Question
dkmcf –
How thick is the pad (both open & folded)? Based on the dimensions for open vs. folded, I take it that this folds into quarters, do I have that right? Thanks.

Dave Gantz –
Our folded sit pad is about 0.25 inches thick when open, one full inch thick when folded into quarters.

…not that the Zpad is bad, but this pad is much lighter and more packable.
It will still keep my pants clean and dry when I sit.
It will still fan a fire.
It will still give me a place to rest a knee on my way into my tent.
Neither pad is going to make me noticeably more comfortable sitting on my Bear Vault or a log, but they both do what I need them to do, and this one does it with less bulk and less weight.

You wouldn’t think such a thin piece of foam could offer so much insulation, but it makes a huge difference. I take it everywhere with me when I’m in the outdoors. It’s insulated me from cold rocks, damp ground, even cold picnic table benches. It’s so small and light I can find space for it even in a small day-pack. It’s the difference between a cold butt and comfort. Once it’s back in stock I plan to buy a couple spares so that my day-pack and my overnight pack can each have a pad as a permanent resident, and I plan to add one to my emergency bag as well.

I use this sit pad constantly on the trail. It is less than an ounce, so there is no reason not to own one.
I use this sit pad constantly on the trail. It is less than an ounce, so there is no reason not to own one. I use it to sit on (duh), but I also use it under my feet with my 3/4 length sleeping pad. I also put my pack (Gossamer Gear Mariposa & Kumo) on it while I am refilling my water or when in the vestibule of my tent/under my hammock.

Excellent Sit Pad
I love this for my ultralight set-up – folds up super small, weighs nothing, and is comfortable. I even pull it out at home when I am sitting around outside doing things!

THANKFUL FOR THIS LAST MINUTE PURCHASE
During a recent section hike, I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to try out all of my new gear. I was so thankful I purchased the sit pad right before my trip. It was lightweight and easily fit in the outer packet of my pack. It never took long to take out or put back into my pack. It also made sitting around during breaks or at camp much more comfortable. I am big on counting the weight of everything, and I don’t think I can even consider taking the sit pad out of my pack to save weight.

Question
Melinda –
Can the sit pad be attachable to outside my pack with a beaner or string tie, etc? I don’t have large enough mesh and don’t like putting seats inside pack. Thanks

admin –
It is not automatically attachable to the outside of your pack. You could get a larger mesh sack or possibly put a hole in it and attach it with a clip.

Best thing I’ve bought all year
I took this on a backpacking trip in the Sawtooth Wilderness with a group of 8 and everyone was asking me where I got this. Definitely my new favorite piece of backpacking gear. Tiny bit of additional weight for a huge amount of comfort. Keeps your bum comfy and from getting cold while sitting on rocks that will suck the heat right out of you. My friend who was sitting on some sharp rocks without a cushion literally ended up with holes in her pants. This is a super cheap and easy way to prevent having to buy new pants! And you will be comfy! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A must have
This little item is a must have. I use it to reinforce my daypack, When I’m changing, in my hammock, and of course, as a sit pad. Bought a second one for a friend a few months later!

Just what you need, nothing more
This pad is just perfect- just the right size, and practically weightless. It folds down so small you can tuck it in the pack easily. Best option out there for those looking to go light and fast, or even just efficiently and smartly.

I added this to my basket just before ordering some other gear and am happy I did.
I added this to my basket just before ordering some other gear and am happy I did. It weighs less than some stuff sacks yet performs as advertised. It is also very thin so some thought is required before placing it on rough terrain.

These handy little pads are seriously awesome!
These handy little pads are seriously awesome! I can sit on it by day and stuff it I into my top quilt footbox at night (the perfect complement to a short underquilt). Folds easily down to a size smaller than a pair of boxed DVDs and weighs virtually nothing. I love these.

Folds up very small, and very light compared to other options I was looking at.
Actually my son was using it for the first time but only half unfolded because it’s so thin, and the bumps overlay into dips. He couldn’t tell he could unfold it a second time to give him twice the surface.
