    Perfect for settling down.

I like to read a bit before settling down for the night in my hammock. I was putting my book above my head and hoping it would stay there but woke up too many times with a book sticking into my ribs. The Peak Shelf solves this and gives me a place to put other stuff I want in the hammock with me but don’t need instant access to (charging batteries, book, jacket, etc.). If you’re ordering a Chameleon, just add one of these and the sidecar now.

    Awesome!

I just used this for the first time this past weekend in my chameleon and it’s awesome! I tossed some extra clothing, as well as a few other items in the peak shelf in case I wanted more layers (in this case I ended up taking off a few layers overnight and placing them in the peak shelf) or needed to get up in the middle of the night for whatever reason. It was so convenient to use and to keep items with me in order to keep bugs out of and off of my stuff (I have the symmetrical bug net). I’m so happy with this purchase.

    For my Chameleon

This is a great addition to my Chameleon, I don’t like leaving to much of my things outside here in Australia, lots of stuff like climbing in your boots and gear.
    Recommend this to anyone.

    Peak Shelf

Peak shelf is a simple effective system that allows to stow items securely & out of the way. Ideal for holding rain or down jackets , balaclava, beanie or gloves in the event of expected bad weather. It slides away from the gathered end to allow for easy access or load & then slides back toward the hammock end out of the way.

Can be used at either end of the hammock. I have had no issues with it interfering with my head space or my storage pocket. Highly recommended !

Greetings! The Half-Wit is not designed to accommodate the peak shelf. The Peak Storage Bag is a nice option that you can put on your ridgeline. However, the ridgeline for the Half-Wit is above the bug netting, so the Peak Storage Bag or any ridgeline option would have to be set up at the foot end where there is no bugnet, rather than the head end. Customer Service

Hey Jeff, the hardware used to feed through the ridgeline on two corners DOES (just) fit the 7/64 Amsteel. The hardware on the other two corners that is used to hook into the D-rings sewn into several of our hammocks, will only fit into the 1/2 Nylon D-rings. So yes, this should work for your 7/64 Ridgeline!

  10. Question

    onkel_wolle

Hi, I have a gathered end hammock that has little textile loops about 90cm from the suspension ring where the ridgeline is attached as well as the end loops of the hammock. This would be the point I’d like to attach the small hook to. The textile loops are made of the same material the hammock is made of and I could probably fit some sort of keyring or at least knot a little piece of rope in there. The question is: Would the position of these little attachment loops (90cm from the point where the small hook would attach) work with the peak shelf?

Also the ridgeline is 3mm in diameter but has loops on both ends that I cannot “undo”. I don’t know the correct English term for that, but I guess it’s some sort of spliced eye, while it’s not really “spliced” as you can do real splicing only with real (twisted) rope/cable. It’s more like some people make these soft shackles by threading the braided rope into and through itself… does that description make any sense to you? So my ridgeline has these loops on both ends that I cannot undo… would I be able to fit the squeeze hook onto that? What’s the hole diameter of the squeeze hook?

    Thank you in advance!

The top of the squeeze hook that would hook onto the ridgeline is approx 2.4mm

Very practical: Accessible without hindering the sleeper’s position. I mounted one at each end of the hammock: At the feet for the storage of equipment such as packaging covers or material for the day, at the head for down, pillow,…, accessible while lying down.

You would have to sew on d rings on the hem and add a ridgline.

you would need to attach side loops to have ti open right. It doesn’t fit without the modification and you need to disconnect the ridgeline which means undoing the suspension. So the answer is not well.

Liked the first so much we bought 3 more.

We bought a lightly used Chameleon that came with one peak shelf. It was immediately apparent to us that this is a must have item. I bought a second shelf for that hammock and shortly afterward ordered a second Chameleon with two shelves.

Great for those hot nights to store the summer quilt at the foot shelf ready to be pulled out for the 4am temp drop. Beenie, gloves and other lighter weight stuff over the head end. These leave the RL organizer open for phone, glasses, ear plugs without so much clutter. We feel these shelves allow for better organization and ease of use.

    Best thing about the Chameleon

Spent the last 7 nights in my new Chameleon with this peak shelf. Never again struggle to keep the top quilt in the hammock as you enter or exit. Great for storing the night shirt and water bottle. The best thing since sliced bread!

I got the peak shelf with the kickstarter. Loved it so much I got a second for the head end. Last weekend neither got in my way and held all I needed them to.

I have two of these, and LOVE them. One I use in a hammock with regular gathered ends and then sewed on some tiny rubber sink gaskets for the sides. The other is my beloved aging WBBB, and I was able to accomodate its “fixed” ends too by simply putting a tight tiny loop at the butt-end of that permanent ridgeline inside the hammock. Finally, on both I have a tiny prusik on the adjusting end attached to the ridgeline, (and nipped off the little cute things Dutch put on, which are too fiddly for my old gnarled fingers). These are absolutely fantastic for using as a headrest with my coat stuffed inside. Oh I think of the years I’ve spent wrestling my pillow and clothes bag out from underneath my rump (all while having a wet dog on top of me).
