Description
Now you can get your hammock with an attached half bugnet.  We designed this to be the ultimate lightweight backpacking hammock.  The hammock body comes hemmed on all four sides, with a cinched gathered end and an attached reinforced half bugnet. The bugnet hangs down from the ridgeline and can be adjusted for a good seal.  Comes with 2 amsteel continuous loops and a ridgeline. Build your own suspension, or choose from one of our two pre-made suspensions at a reduced price.  Hammock bodies are 58″ wide and 10.5 ft long. It also comes with a double ended stuff sack and side pull-outs using line locs3. Every hammock also has the “Knotty Mod” to help keep the slack out of the sides and it makes a footbox even if you sleep in either direction. Made exclusively by Dutchware and of course, Made in the USA.

Until it rips. I don’t recommend you go over the weight rating. We have fabric that will go up to 440 pounds. When you go over the weight rating you are not only rising damage to the hammock or yourself but also it won’t be as comfortable.

The Half-Wit goes in my Maxpedition bag, and my Maxpedition bag never stays home. I’m the envy of the office when my colleagues drive off for lunch and pass me passed out in this ingenious contraption. Dutch Spiders on 10′ Dynema/Poly straps make setup a matter of seconds and the whole setup weighs next to nothing. I prefer the full bottom entry bug net for camping, but my work slacks protect my legs while I’m slacking, and the half net keeps the critters off my face and arms until my alarm goes off. Oh, how I loathe packing up to go back to work.

Two Half-Wits for two half-wits
My wife and I saw Shug’s video on Dutch’s Half-Wit hammocks; we loved the features and decided to order one each ahead of our summer touring season (we’re motorcyclists). They came in just in time for our May long weekend trip so we got a solid three nights in them. The half bug net attached to the ridge line plus the knotty mod for the foot box both live up to expectations. No bites and excess fabric reduced. Success!!
For my wife the hammock is perfect as designed. I, however, needed a little more hammock. I’m a taller guy with broad shoulders who is a bit of a restless sleeper due to a shoulder injury. As a result I found myself waking up with my face in the bug net ever night. I contacted Dutch when we got back from the trip and had him put together a custom Half-Wit… my Half-Wit and a Half. It’s longer and wider to accommodate me. It came in yesterday, my wife and I hung it in the park last night after work and, again, SUCCESS! It’s perfect.

Works as advertised.
Works as advertised. The hammock is very roomy and the material feels nice. The netting also is soft so no issue for me as far as comfort. Also, it comes with a fixed ridge line, this helps keep the right angel for asym sleeping. I had an eno, that is a good hammock, but this is lighter and has a netting to keep bugs away. Other closed hammocks with full nets make me feel too confined, but I really liked this. I bought with 5ft huggers and whoopies. If you are going where the trees are large or spread apart, get longer straps.

This hammock is great. The Hexon is super soft and very subtle. The length is great and provides a nice flat lay. The half net is just enough and gives a good amount of space. This is my new goto hammock and everyone I see is curious about it. I absolutely love it.

Just fantastic. I switched into Dutch’s Half-Wit partway through a section hike on the AT and used it for around 400 miles. I absolutely love it and wish I’d bought one sooner. General thoughts:
Comfort and Design: Great. Easy to sleep asymmetrically in. Footbox “knotty mod” design works exactly as advertised. Love the half bug net, works like a charm. Fixed ridge line is great and allows for tweaking the bug netting position as well as easy hanging of underquilts.
Durabilty: Great so far, used daily for about 400 miles (hexon 1.0 fabric). No noticeable wear yet other than some slight snags in the bug netting, but I don’t consider that to be faulty design or construction. Anytime you have loose bug netting hanging down you’re liable to eventually snag it. I would just make a note to try and be careful with it, but I love the design so I wouldn’t change it.
Ease of Use/Hanging: Great. I use it with Dutch’s whoopie hooks and slings and I can hang the hammock in a minute or two no problem. It’s so easy to set up and take down I often hang it during lunch if I want to chill for a bit. The hardest part is finding two trees you like… the struggle of every hammocker.
Comparisons: I also own a Hennessy and an ENO, and while I have nothing bad to say about either of those, Dutch’s hammock is my pick of the three and will likely be the only one I use from this point forward. I love the bug net solution, and it’s simply lighter than all of the competition while still providing all of the comfort and convenience.

This has quickly become my favourite hammock.
I have it in the Hexon 1.6, though not the softest material, it has a comfortable secure feel to it which I like, and still has come in as my lightest hammock as well.
I like the straighter lay I get here which comes from near perfect hammock sag under the ridgeline, the ability to lay left/right is understated but no less important.
The netting is minimalist but clever in it’s adjustability.
Does it keep the bugs out? Yep! Job done.
The Knotty mod at first I thought was a gimmick but after playing around with it for a while, I quite enjoy it’s uses as a footbox and as a tensioner, removing the loose hammock material.
On a side note, us Aussies find the name ‘Half-Wit’ quite funny, it is a name used when we are less than happy with someone!

This hammock is amazing!
This hammock is amazing! I got the Hexon 1.6 in burnt orange and the fabric feels very strong, yet soft. The width of the hammock is very generous for sleeping diagonally and I am very impressed with the knotty mod. I had never used that before, but it just works.
Our family usually makes our own hammocks and bug nets, but I do not regret spending money on this. It was well worth the expense.

I just started hammock hiking this year after 3 years fighting with sleeping pads and trying to sleep on the ground. It was not working for me. I used an old HH and slept great. I spent several weeks researching and reading about hammocks. I posted on a gear site and was given Dutchware info. I am so thankful for that. I watched Shug’s video review and immediately I ordered the Half-Wit in Hexon 1.0 in grey with tree straps. This hammock is small, light and very packable. I have not used it yet hiking, but did set it up in my yard and laid in it for hours with peace and quiet. I can’t wait to get my underquilt and get out in the woods. Thanks Dutch
