I’m 5 foot 9 and 155 lbs.
I’m looking at hexon 1 in burnt orange and hexon 1.6 in burnt orange.
Is there a difference in Comfort between the 1 and 1.6?
What is the hammock weight not shipping weight of both hammocks?

Dave Gantz (verified owner) –
The Hexon 1.0 feels excellent soft feel, almost silky, and holds up to 200 pounds. The Hexon 1.6 has a soft cotton-like feel and holds up to 350 pounds. We only have the shipping weight of these hammocks.

My Half-Zipped hammock arrived a few days ago. Fast shipping and great support during its journey here. To say I’m happy with it is an understatement. I am completely amazed at the quality and comfort for the price. I packed up and went into the nearby mountains right away. Right now winter is on the way. Termination dust in the higher elevations. Pouring rain and colder temps. Nevertheless, I had a great night’s sleep. This thing is roomy and the lay was perfect. No need to go buying a Blackbird or any of those other “high-end” hammocks. My hat’s off to Dutchware for designing and building this fine piece of equipment at a reasonable price. They will be my go-to for all my gear from now on. Kind greetings from Alaska!

It’s obvious that Dutch is really in to hammocks. It shows in quality of work and attention to details. This was the best hammock I’ve owned. I used it nearly daily this summer and used in for several multi-day backpack trips. Unfortunately in fell out of my bike pack the other day. I know, … sloppy. I even had extra Dutch Biners hanging around with me. So I ordered a new one today.
Thanks Team Dutch!

Had a great experience buying my hammock and tarp. Was able to aske questions and get everything I needed sent out. This hammock is beautifully crafted, solid and soft at the same time. I got a double layered hammock which gives me some flexibility to use different kinds of insulation. And for those who are uninitiated with hammocking it truly transforms the backpacking experience. I went with a friend who just bought a new tent. I truly felt sorry for him but also felt how limited our selection of campsites was due to the terrestrial nature of his equipment. It’s a game changer!

The cloud 71 fabric looks like it’s just as transparent as the netting. Could you make a netted hammock with just one large sheet of cloud 71? I tend to get holes and tears in my net and having cloud 71 could be a way to avoid that.

In the product description it states that the Half Zipped is a symmetrical hammock with symmetrical bug-net allowing you to choose your lay direction. In the video included in the description Dutch says it’s one direction only, “head left, feet right”. Which is it?

Dave Gantz (verified owner) –
The Half-Zipped is now symmetrical. The original design, highlighted in our video, was asymmetrical. The current design is symmetrical.

IWhen ordering a Half -Zipped with a vented top cover, can it be customized by being able to choose which side of the hammock that the cover is sewn to?
As an example: I sleep with my head right, so I enter and exit the hammock from the left of the head end, and as well, like to have my side arm and bear spray in a side pocket hung from the left side.
Thanks, F.

What is the approximate weight rating for a double layer hexon 1.0?

Alex Thomas –
Normally the 2nd layer adds 50% more to the weight rating. Hexon 1.0 has a 200 pound weight rating for a single layer, so adding a 2nd layer would bump that to 300 pounds.

Question
davidr –
I normally use a quilt with a zippered foot and straps such that the sleeping pad is inside the foot and the straps are under my pad. I’ve been inside a TarpTent and a bivy, both have been fine. For a hammock system, would I be better off using a single fabric hammock and my sleeping gear on top or one with two layers of fabric and my sleeping pad between the layers and the quilt on top? I’m 6”1″ 225 lb. Would I be OK with a Hexon 1.2 or would the Hexon 1.6 wind up being more comfortable as a single layer? If I go double layer is two Hexon 1.0 layers appropriate?
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Dave Gantz (verified owner) –
We suggest to place a sleeping pad in between a two layer hammock for more comfort. This way, the pad doesn’t slide around at night. Any two layer fabric combination will work for you. You may want to consider a wide hammock at your height as well.

I’m 5″10 170lbs. Looking at 1.2 or 1.6 hexon hammock. Most everyone talks about the hexon 1.6. Looking to see about a lighter hammock for backpacking. Have an Eldorado now.
What would be the difference in them?
Weight wise
Stretch when laying in them

Dave Gantz (verified owner) –
Hexon 1.2 has a soft, silky, feel to the touch, provides good stretch, and holds up to 275 pounds. Hexon 1.6 feels more like cotton to the touch, provides a firmer lay, and holds up to 350 pounds. You can check the weight of all of our options near the bottom of each product page.

I guess you can say this is like having a Chameleon , but on a budget. I chose 1.6 hexon fabric & it has the right amount of stretch & support for me. What i love is once inside the hammock , there is NO looking for the sweet spot n the asym lay….you literally roll right into the sweet spot position .
I love the bugnet stow solution & the fact that many of the chameleons accessories can fit on it…. namely the peak storage shelf, the pocket organizer. With some custom alterations from dutch, i am also able to use the chameleon top cover.
Like most addicts iv’e purchased many times from dutch & this is my second hammock from this company. You cannot go wrong! For perspective i am 5’8″ 185 lbs & this system works great

Hard to beat the quality, price, and availability of this hammock As a hammock using thru-hiker I’ve resorted to making my own hammocks to get the quality and light weight I need on the trail. When I saw the Swift/half zip hammock by Dutch I was intrigued. And when I saw the weight for the 1.0 fabric of just 12.1 ounces, I figured it was worth buying. It was in stock (of course!) And arrived in just a couple days.
Like the other things I’ve previously bought from Dutch, this is a well-made and well thought out piece of gear. On my scale it weighs 12.2 ounces and is a spacious 11 foot ridge line hammock with sewn in bug net and zipper along one side. Not to mention the mini D rings and quilt hooks for gear pouch organizers. Looks like I’ve found my new trail hammock!

“Swiftly” moved to a Half Zipped
This was my first Dutchware hammock. I liked the idea of a rolled up bug net that was attached and out of the way but not so far away as to get lost. Hung it as soon as I pulled it from the mailbox and attached an HG Incubator 40. Took a 2 hour nap in it. Lovely. Instantly became my favorite hammock and I own a few. I have also ordered a Chameleon which is back ordered.. I don’t care. Because I have this wonderful contraption to keep me satisfied until it does get here. I went with 1.6 Hexon and I dress out at 6’3″ 265 pounds. The hammock fits me like a glove. I won’t name the other vendors that I have in my gear storage out of respect for those fine folks but As stated this is my new fav-o-rite. Peace right back to ya Dutch.

Question
Arpad –
Hello Sir,
I have noticed that on the chameleon hammock, the attachable bug net does not fully seal at the ends, and because of this you have an additional piece of bug net at either end of the hammock with some form of elastic that goes over the bug net forming an insect seal.
My question: With the half zipped hammock do you have a similar construction at the hammock ends. In other words to keep the insects out are you reliant on the two small pieces of bug net at either end of the hammock to seal up the small gaps where the zip terminates?
Or is there no gap there?
I reside in australia where elastic type materials degrade in very short periods (typically less than one year) not to mention you have no idea of what flies, mosquitoes and spiders are about till you’ve been here.
God bless
Arpad

First off, I am very happy with these hammocks. I bought 2. They are comfortable, easy to put up and take down, and overall do the job very nicely. But FYI: I am very disappointed in the the fact that the 1″ straps that come with the hammocks are NOT allowed in a lot of places, this is true along the Appalachian Trail and in fact, officials will make you take them down. You need at least 2″ straps. So this means having to make an additional purchase to replace an included product that is virtually useless in many states. Something I wish I had known before making the purchase, but in defense of Dutchware, this is technically my own fault. So, in short, this is meant to be an FYI for those looking into switching from tent to hammock. Still a great product. i would highly recommend the purchase. Just be sure to purchase 2″ straps as well. I hope Dutchware can make this an option in the future.
