Perfect for a good night sleep!

The bugnet with spreader bar arrived today… so I installed it immediately! Having a 12-foot Wide Cameleon with sidecar and zip-on underquilt I was curious how it would all fit together.
First off the spreaderbar works as advertised: entry is super easy and it’s wonderfully roomy inside, with everything staying away from my face. this is going to give me many sweet dreams and give me great views of the forest in the moring.
However, there are some niggels (which may be atributable to some special aspects of my setup): Unlike what you see on Dutch’s video, the speaderbar is quite large and stiff on my 12-foot long wide hammock and the bar stays relatively flat on the hammock. This looks like it is due to the bars not reaching all the way down (they stop about 4 inches/15 cm from the zip). This means it continually keeps the sidecar open and you will be looking for the zip when you try to get out as a ‘shelf’ appears near the zip. Not a huge problem though, as you just need to be aware where you leave the zip. It may also be due to the setup of the hammock: in 2 weeks I have a trip coming up where I will try to iron out any issues and come with some suggestions.

All in all another great product and for good nights sleep! Thanks DutchWare!

    Hi,

I currently have the WIDE Chameleon Body Layer 1 – Hexon W 1.6 with a Chameleon Asym Bugnet and a Chameleon Sidesling. I wanted to know if the “Chameleon Spreader Bar Bugnet” will be compatible with my current hammock and sidesling?

Hey there. Yes, the spreader bar bugnet is compatible with your gear! Very cool. Please note that this option is only available in symmetrical (not asym). Your Chameleon is designed to be able to work with both an asym as well as symmetrical bugnet/top cover.

It is always the little details Dutchware pays attention to.

The new tabs on the bug net were a game changer. It is a breeze to get the spreader bar put in now. It is a very small detail, but a huge quality of life improvement!

Just Not My Cup of Tea

I greatly anticipated the arrival of my spreader bar bugnet. I really thought it was going to be the cure all of all cure all’s. No more tie outs. No more bug net in my face. As it turns out, it’s just doesn’t work out for me. Maybe I’m just too old school. I used it for three nights and while it did do all the things I just mentioned, the shoulder squeeze I experienced while using it was unbearable. My shoulders hurt for two days after a long weekend of use. I really expected the exact opposite from this product. I think I am better off with just an asym bugnet and a tie out on the head end only. While the concept is excellent and it may be just the ticket for some, it just didn’t work out for me. I am going to see if I can sell it at a group hang or on an internet forum.
