    Question

    Randy Condon

Are the smaller ones small enough for 1.75 or 2.2 zing-it?

Yes they are, the two bigger ones will not work but 3 of the smaller ones worked well.

    Great splicing tools

These work perfectly and it’s nice that they come in such a variety of sizes. I used them with Zingit and DutchHooks to make a new ridgeline for my tarp.

  5. Question

    Stephen Harper

Are these of sufficient size and length to make the long 10-12” buries needed for whoopie slings?

No they are much smaller and are best used for reflect it, zing it or lash it. I would suggest the loop turner if you are making amsteel whoopie slings and need a longer burry

    Awesome for Eyes

Works great for small end treatments like eyes and soft shackles. Not really long enough to do a whoopie sling, the Loop Turner is the way to go there (available at local fabric shops or from Dutch).

I bought these for splicing Zing it and Lash it. I was very impressed with how sturdy and well made they are. They are small and were a little difficult for me to grip well at times. On the other hand, they are small and are perfect for the task. Any plans for making a larger version for making whoopie slings? I have broken more than of few of the loop turners I have purchased at local stores and have had several just fall apart, just no quality with those. Once again, thanks for the high quality products, ingenious innovations and awesome customer service!

Smaller than I thought they would be, but they work great.
With the second to largest I was able to get 10 inch buries in 7/64 amsteel.

Might be the best thing on the site!

Dutch makes a ton of awesome stuff, but if you want to rig your own with or without his components, these are pretty much a must have. I’ve used sail/saddle needles, guitar string, floral wire, and a bunch of other options for splicing small diameter cordage, but this is the only way to do it without a lot of frustration. If you’re doing big stuff like amsteel then the Dritz loop turner is the way to go, but once you get down under 3mm these will save a ton of headaches and restarts. Since all of my lines and even my backup cordage are Zing-it or equivalent, I even carry my preferred Zing-it sized hook in my repair kit on backpacking trips. Pro tip – if you wear sweaters or synthetics and get/hate snags (Velcro…uugh), these also work awesome for pulling them through to the back side to keep your stuff looking new. Save one technical shirt or sweater from the trash bin and you’ve more than justified having these tools around. I’m still finding new uses for them and I think I got them right after Dutch put them on the site…that’s been a while.

I just bought my second set of these tools. Not because any one broke but because if one does I want to have a spare on hand! I’ve used them on Zing-it, Lash-it, and Dynaglide to splice loops in the end, and mitten hooks on. I only use about 3 of the sizes but when you need a splicing tool this small these are invaluable! Thanks Dutch for carrying them!

    The struggles I've had-

-using guitar strings and copper wire, when I could have had these for a few bucks! Having the right tool for the job is such a joy. Note: although the loop turner may be a great option, the claims here that you can’t make whoopee slings with these is false. Because the rope gathers on the needle, compressing as you make the bury, I found it was no problem to create a 12″ long bury with the largest needle in 7/64 amsteel. A bit more may be possible as well, but.considering that I limit mine to 10″, it’s plenty.

    Great little tool

These are great for splicing. I didnt read all the reviews or the additional info before ordering them so I was expecting them to be a little longer. They can be a little difficult to keep a hold of when splicing. However they still work pretty great especially for splicing smaller cordage like the lash it and zing it. If they were a little longer/easier to grip I would definitely give them 5/5.
