Great, keeps bugs out, easy in and out, super cozy for shared system. I got this for hammock backpacking with my young son. He needs to sleep pretty close to feel safe in the great outdooors so we previously shared a big diamond tarp with bugnetting that fell to the ground which didn’t do a great job of keeping out bugs or rain (all kinds of critters including bugs, salamanders and once a flying squirrel would come up out of the leaf litter) and was quite heavy. We’d experimented with hanging one above the other and using a spreader bar. The bar worked better for being able to check in with each other, but made the not-so-great rain qualities of our old tarp worse. So we decided we needed a new tarp and bugout system and I liked that I could take the double system to a single system depending on the trip. This was just what we needed. It worked perfectly for keeping the bugs out! Super easy to get in and out of. Also worked great for being close by but not TOO close together while sleeping so we were both able to get a good night sleep. We experimented with both a long (36″) spreader bar and a short (24″) bar and both work fine for spreading the mesh. We’re much closer together with the short bar, but in cold weather that’s fine, and it keeps us a little more under our too-small tarp. At the end of our trip we found a hole at one end of the netting, but customer service replaced it and were easy to get hold of. I could have taken a refund, but I really enjoyed this net, so I’m hoping it was just a random one time mystery hole and went for the replacement. I’m also wondering if we were hanging too tight and in future making sure to keep more slack in the ridgeline. One thing I wish I knew before hand was you do need a pretty big tarp to cover a double system. We got an 11′ x 8’6′ standard cuben with doors from HG, but it seems the sides are too short with a double system- it would cover in rain with light wind but not sideways rain- we should have gotten the Palace! Planning to upgrade in the Spring…

Awesome Component in the Modular SystemI’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Dutch is a genius. This net is a work of art.

The Double Dutch Bugnet is a thoughtfully designed addition to the versatile Chameleon hammock system. The thoroughness of Dutch’s R&D in bringing this component to his customers is clear. I own multiple Chameleon hammocks, and my wife and I like to hang side by side using the Beetle Buckle suspension and a spreader bar. The new Double Dutch net and its accompanying zip-in panel allow tandem hammocks to connect and share the same enclosed space, imbuing our modular Chameleons with the function of a purpose-built hammock for two while still retaining their versatility as individual single-occupant hammocks in netless, netted, or covered modes.

On my first try, It took less than 10 minutes for me to hang two Chameleons, remove and stow their individual bug nets, and attach the Double Dutch components to connect them. Great attention to detail is apparent in the way the ends of the bug net interface with the Chameleon’s mesh zipper hoods and span the distance between the two hammocks. After the zippers are attached, a series of easy-to-fasten buckles on elastic mountings create a flexible, effective seal between the net above and the fill-in Argon panel below. The relatively narrow 32″ spreader bar keeps the head ends of the hammocks at a comfortable distance from one another without promoting excessive see-saw motion during entry and exit, close enough that the occupants can pass items back and forth with ease.

Dutch even provides a generous jumbo-sized double-ended stuff sack with the Double Dutch, big enough to swallow two Chameleon hammocks with the Double Dutch and the zip-in panel installed and ready to hang.

I bought the Double Dutch as an anniversary present. My wife loves it, and so do I. We look forward to many nights of happy hanging under the same net.

Dutch must have been reading my mind.My wife and I have been double hanging for nearly two years. She’s highly claustrophobic and can’t use a Fronkey net, so she’s gone without.

I thought that an integrated net might be better for her due to having zipper control right at her face. We bought a 2.4 Chameleon. She tried it for a few nights in the house, but still had to leave the net open a bit.

When the Double Dutch Net was announced I knew Dutch had that telepathy going on, I ordered a Chameleon for myself. Once the net was released we ordered it asap.

We tinkered with it a few times but didn’t get to actually use it till about 2 weeks ago. One night in the back yard and…all was well. Last weekend we gave it the acid test with 3 nights in the woods. Again no issues at all. No doubt the zipper control and the openness between hammocks has put her at ease.

    Thank you Dutchwaregear crew!

Finally got to use my full Double Dutch system this weekend. It was basically dark by the time I got set up Friday night, so wasn’t able to fully appreciate it until morning. When I awoke, it was so pleasing to look up into the spacious bugnetted area above, then rolled over and said good morning to my wife. Pinch me, am I dreaming? How could hammocking have gotten better than sleeping on a cloud? I have Dutch to thank for this wonderful morning vision! This set up has made a big difference in getting my wife into nature with me, and worth every penny!
