The Chameleon is a full-featured hammock designed from the ground up. Each of the components that go into the Chameleon have been developed by us to create a versatile and modular light weight hammock that adapts to its environment. Because you can remove and change out components, the Chameleon will be the only hammock you will ever need.

The Chameleon adapts to your needs and is the only hammock you need for every situation. The specially-designed zipper allows you to remove the bug net to go without or replace it with a vented top cover. With the vented top cover, you can take your Chameleon into colder temperatures because it creates a micro climate yet still vents out the moisture produced by your breath. With many hammocks on the market today, you have to buy all the components with your original purchase. One of the beauties of the Chameleon is that it is very modular and you can purchase components at a later date. Buy the hammock body today, when the bugs come out, buy the bugnet; when winter hits, buy the top cover. If you have the bugnet and top cover already and your loved one wants to come with you on a hike, all you have to do is buy another body and one person can use the top cover and another can use the bug net. If you liked the Dallas Cowboys last year and have a blue top cover and this year they are on a losing streak you can just get a black one and be a Raiders fan. Additionally, we have many auxiliary components that you can buy to expand your hammock. From peak shelves to bottle holders, you will be able to bling out your hammock to make it individually yours. Once the Kickstarter is completed, our business model is to stock every item so you can purchase them and have them shipped out immediately. No more waiting for a month or two to get your hammock or component. So no matter which direction you sleep in, no matter what the temperature is outside, no matter how many bugs are outside, whether you are alone or with a friend, you will have the perfect hammock every time.

When you sleep in a hammock, you want to position yourself diagonally so you get a flatter lay. With the patent pending zipper, you can flip over the top cover or bugnet so you can lay in a different diagonal direction. This is not only important to give you the freedom to lay in the direction you desire, but the Chameleon will also enable you to match up with another Chameleon hammock to essentially create a two person hammock that uses the same trees and tarp.

If you’re going out hiking or just using the Chameleon to lounge in the back yard, beach, or the park, the bugnet or top cover is completely removable. This means you don’t have to carry any more weight than you need for any given adventure.

When there are bugs, the Chameleon has you covered. With our special nanoweave bugnet, even the smallest biting, stinging, disease-carrying parasite will be kept safely away. The zip on bugnet is everything you desire. Light, durable, and with great visibility, our detachable bugnet keeps you from being eaten alive.

Don’t let a dropping thermometer keep you from enjoying the great outdoors. Our vented top cover will go in place of the bugnet on the same zipper track. The fabric is our proprietorially-designed ARGON 90. It is breathable yet wind resistant. It will help keep your body heat in, creating a micro-climate inside your cocoon of warmth. The vent is designed to not only allow the moisture of your breath to exhaust, but also to give you a window into the world.

We put a lot of thought and effort into the functionality of the Chameleon. The modular design of this hammock allows you to add additional products, some of which we haven’t even fully designed yet. The Chameleon is 11 feet long as the standard model and you don’t have to pay extra and it isn’t an upgrade. There is no such thing as too much of a good thing when it is this good. This will give you more room and a larger sweet spot for a flatter lay. Those who know hammocks, know size matters.

The Chameleon comes with a unique tie out system. The secret to getting a good flat lay in a hammock is to lie diagonally. There are adjustable tie outs at your head and feet to give you the required symmetrical shape for a comfortable sleeping position. There are two on each side that are adjustable from inside the hammock providing more tension to keep the bugnet off of your face. Also, these tie outs are movable so that when you want to change the direction, you simply unsnap them from the D-rings and move them to the other set.

The Patent Pending vision zipper is a toothed, rather than coiled, zipper for ease of use and strength. The vision zipper is the key to this hammock and why the Chameleon outperforms every other hammock on the market today. Our zipper is the first one of its kind and starts with a toothed zipper such as you will find on high end jackets versus a weaker coil zipper. There are two zipper pulls that can be positioned at any place for easy access. The zippers are opposing so they open in between and most importantly you don’t have to reach to the top of the hammock to open it. Furthermore, the vision zipper can be flipped over and reversed, this enables you to flip the top cover or bugnet over or around so you can lay in any direction. We made each Chameleon with two of these specialized zippers so you can enter/exit the hammock from both sides and you can reach out to adjust your underquilt easily from inside the hammock. Lastly, since the zippers are separating, you can go with any top to save weight, add a top cover or bugnet in the same zipper track and only have to carry what is needed on your adventure. This is how your Chameleon changes to your environment.

Best. Hammock. Ever. :)In a word, the Chameleon hammock is comfortable. The supple Hexon 1.6 oz body gives me a great night’s sleep every night and makes for cozy, compliant lounging in the morning. The fabric breathes well underneath me and feels great on the skin. As a fan of firmer hammocks, I still found the support offered by the midweight Chameleon to be more than adequate.

After 30+ nights in my first Chameleon (delivered early in the original Kickstarter campaign) my user experience remains excellent, and I’ve come back for another. Every feature on the Chameleon performed as advertised, and the fit and finish are superb to the last stitch. I wouldn’t really change a thing about this design, and I trust that in time I’ll discover even more new uses for all the little features that make it so convenient and adaptable.

I would recommend the Chameleon to just about anybody looking to spend a night in the woods. I think Dutch is a genius.

Hi, I am very new to hammock camping and would love to get into it with this hammock, but I have a couple of questions. First, will any tree straps and carabiners work to set this up? If not what do I need?

Almost any suspension will work with this hammock. However if you are looking for easy and simplistic may I suggest the beetle buckles with the spider/poly straps. Here is a link for them on our site:

The chameleon is well thought through. The modular system makes it easy to adapt to the trip you’re going on soon, and it’s a good do it all hammock. It’s insanely comfortable, and the number of accessories is huge, so nobody should be disappointed. Best hammock ever, hands down.

you will need to order the whoopie slings separately as the chameleon will not automatically come with them. Here is a link for the product:

    The perfect Hammock

With its versatility and fixed Ridgeline, you can adjust the Chameleon to suit your needs without having to completely change the setup and get the same lay every time. It’s a breeze to set up and take down and if you pack your hammock with your under and over quilt, the stuff sack makes a great tarp bag. Almost my entire setup is from Dutch, (I made my own under and over quilt) and I love it so much that my husband got one too!

Dutch Chameleon Double Setup with Bugnets & Spreader-Bar

The two Dutch Chameleons arrived late Spring 2017 for me. I split the cost with a friend I frequently backcountry camp with and we decided to try the double set up. The fabric was amazing, and with the spreader bar the two hammocks sit nicely side-by-side without touching – this sometimes takes a second try.

We slept great, and since then I’ve been sleeping in the Chameleon full-time indoors in addition to the four short trips we’ve taken them out on – twice day trips, twice longer overnight trips. During one of these trips the rest of the campers woke up complaining of poor sleep and aches in their back, but my buddy and I woke up refreshed and pain-free!

For a few days in early June I was recovering from a virus and spent most of one weekend laying in the hammock indoors in front of the TV. The same amount of time spent on a traditional bed would have been unbearable, but since there are no pressure points while laying in the hammock this was a non-issue.

I’ve had no noticable issues with stretching suspension while using the Dyneema webbing/Beetle Buckles combination, and I recommend using the hammock tie-outs when hanging.

We purchased our 11x10ft tarp from Jacks R Better, but would love to see what Dutch comes up with on his own in the future – if he is planning on doing so.

Yes it will increase the weight limit. It will not quite double it but it will bump it up. As for mosquitoes you should not even really have a problem with a single layer let alone with a double layer.

[ @ 1 day of daily use] Loving this hammock

    Jonathan Burnett

I purchased both versions of this hammock and tried the extra wide version first, this was my first night in the “normal” sized version.

If you’re over 6 ft tall, you’ll probably prefer the extra wide to get an optimal angled lay. being heavier doesn’t equate to needing a wider hammock, because you’re laying at an angle (see the graphics describing how to flip the top-cover and bugnet).

I recommend adding one or two peak shelves to your order.

The 5th hammock at my house... And the best.

    Chris Walker (verified owner)

    I bought this hammock because I wasn’t 100% satisfied with the 4 I had.

I had an AMOK Draumir 3.0 which is nice… But heavy, tippy from front to back… And hard to get awesome rain coverage on. But it is comfortable.

I have an ENO double nest which tends to cacoon me a tad too much and is a bit heavy when adding on a full bug net.

I have an ENO Sub7 which is a tad small for sleeping in but super light.

And an Amazon one of the “winner” brand that I got just for comparison.

    The chameleon is the best…
When laying diagonal the fabric has great stretch (argon 1.6 since I weigh 205 and I’m 5’10”) allowing me to have a lay so flat only the AMOK surpassed it.

Due to the zip on accessories I use less material for my net making it the most compact and almost as light as the sub7 with Summer sock.

It’s almost as light as the sub 7 with Summer sock.

I have a moonlite cover to make winter camping more comfortable… And can get a ton more accessories.

I have the kevlar tree huggers, homemade 7/64 amsteel whoopies, and 764 home made improved soft shackles for suspension.

Now I’m positive this is my summer rig… After I get like a locolibre -20 underquilt I may be ready for winter… The Eno ember2 is just my test rig until I was sure I had something worth investing into more gear for… And now I’m in love with this one.

Do keep in mind everything on this is extra and the bishop bag is hard to get to with net on… Make sure you at least get a Ridgeline caddy for your phone, eyeglasses, etc… There is no side pocket hanging at the Midway point like on an ENO…

Great job Dutch… You won me over.

    So functional!

    alexa.sundal (verified owner)

I have only just received this hammock, but I already love it. I set it up in my backyard to give it a try and I have no complaints (I’ll update my review should anything change my initial impression). The setup is SO quick. I ordered this hammock with the symmetrical bugnet and the bugnet can be stored in the hammock stuff sack, attached or not attached which makes for the quickest setup immmaginable. It is also extremely light and honestly the most comfortable hammock I’ve tried. I love the tieouts. They’re super helpful in getting comfortable. I paired this hammock with the 8ft spider/poly straps and June bug buckle. I’ve never had such an easy time getting a hammock ready to lounge in. I do a lot of overnight backpacking and I mostly wanted to cut down on weight, but the level of comfort and functionality just can’t be beat. This was better than I expected and I can’t wait to use it on the trail.

    Hard Decision. Big Reward.

It’s obvious that Dutch is passionate about hammocks. He’s also dissatisfied with the norm, constantly innovating and improving. This is both fantastic and annoying. You buy something awesome this week, and next week he comes out with something more awesome;) The beautiful thing about the Chameleon is its modularity, which allows you to keep up with as much of Dutch’s innovating as you wish.

The hardest part for me was all the decisions – width, fabric type, fabric color, suspension, etc. Let me just say the Hexon 1.0 is like butter. It’s amazing fabric.

Finally, the customer service is amazing! They have put up with all my questions, order changes, and even exchanges. Such a great team. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, in fact I constantly recommend Dutchware.

FINALLY!!!! Holy cow (not Hindu) I am so excited! Ok… So what is the standard width of these? If I recall it was 54″. Also, is there an ETA on a wide version? I am 6’3″ and thought I might get a better flat lay in a wide.

Hell yes it was worth it!

after reading reviews about the chameleon hammock on different forums and watching youtube video’s on it, I decided to buy the hammock and bugnet as here in Ireland a bugnet is a most.
By the time it got here with custom charges and local postal charges well the price was starting to rise and this is without the dyneema straps peak shelf or storage pockets was it all worth it!
Hell yes it was worth it! the finish to detail is second to none the tieouts extra ‘D’ rings inside and out hooks for the underquilt and the ridge line does a fantastic job of tighten the bug net well away from your face. I bought the 1.6 hexon and the comfort of a flat lay is great the room around you also great a very professional job all round, I will probably make a few storage pockets myself as it would cost too much by the time custom and local mail had another slice.
Looking forward to many nights camping out with the new chameleon would recommend this hammock all day long check youtube for yourself.
Thanks dutch from here in Ireland.

    Our first integrated bug net

My wife immediately freaks out in a fronkey net, so I’ve been trying to come up with a better solution for her. She absolutely loves hexon 2.4 so when a lightly used Chameleon in that fabric became available we grabbed it. She’s been able to spend some nights in it, but leaves the zipper slightly open. I think this let’s her feel she has better control, so anxiety is reduced. With a little bit more time I’m sure she’ll become comfortable enough that she can close it completely. I did find that hanging glow-in-the-dark cord from the pulls helps her as well.

Aside from that the Chameleon is a very nice modular system that we have adopted as our current backpacking choice. Oh yeah, we subsequently bought a second one in hexon 1.6 for me.

Can’t wait to try the Double Dutch arrangement!

    The Best Hammock

    Briana Simoes

This is the best hammock if you want to have several comfortable nights in the backcountry or if you are interested in day hikes with a comfy midday nap. The large body of the hammock makes it easy to sit/lay in it horizontally. Or it is great to sit up in it with the extra fabric supporting your back. The straps and fabric are very durable as well and feel very safe. Having a top cover is a plus to block off any bugs, sunlight and the wind, it adds character as well if you get a design. Thank you dutchware for this product that I love and for your great service as well. 🙂
