Beetle Buckle Complete Suspension

(41 customer reviews)

From: $38.00

Titanium Beetle Buckles are a revolutionary new patent pending suspension system that we invented just for the Chameleon (but can also be used for any other hammock). It excels where other suspension pieces fall short. It is made from grade 5 titanium, so it is light, strong, and won’t corrode. It has special wings that are used to easily release the tension and adjust it. The anchor connection system makes it so you can disconnect your suspension and store your possibly wet or sappy suspension separately from your hammock. Lastly, you can get a spreader bar and adjoin two hammocks together into a two-person shelter.

*Spider/Poly straps combined with the Beetle Buckles will have a weight limit of 350lbs*
*Polyester straps combined with the Beetle Buckle will have a weight limit of 300lbs*

*Spider/Poly straps combined with the Beetle Buckles will have a weight limit of 350lbs
*Polyester straps combined with the Beetle Buckle will have a weight limit of 300lbs
*Beetle buckles will not work with any type of UHMWPE webbing

With the unique beetle buckle system, all you have to do to connect two hammocks is add a spreader bar. Using the spreader bar, you can set them up side-by-side and under the same tarp. This will save you even more weight, since you will only need one tarp, and enable couples and families to camp with each other. If you want to sleep apart or hike solo, you don’t have to change anything on either suspension. They are completely functional as a solo suspension.

Just curious of the advantage of using Dutch clips over just threading your webbing through the loop on the tree strap? Thinking about ordering this setup for my wife’s hammock to make it easier and wondering if I should add the Dutch clips or not.

    Question

    mike berg

webpage now has redletters saying 350# for spider/poly straps ( which I have ) and beetle buckles (samo samo)
Admin has said 250# below post of jan 31, 2019 ??

Love your products and service – proud owner of chameleon and ever toy that goes with it – I use your seat belt 2″ tree huggers because of strength, UV immunity, width (been kicked out due to 1″ yup some rangers having a bad day???) so now I am set – going to get wide version and your ultralight tarp and some cordage to play with – your my favorite(only really) one stop shop stop – no that isn’t redundant I hope

My question is back to actual rating as red letters were added after I bought and successfuly used items – never had any signs of slippage or deflection of metal or marks or indentations of straps (stress converted to heat) or any stretching/squeaking (different material calendaring going into resonance) – just doing its job I guess – I am 350# and hang pack on one end of hammock and boots/water treatment on the other.
a failure of 300 or 350??? the suspension items in question are 1) raw strap yield@3000# 2)buckle horn deflection MY guess is @900# and yield @MY guess is 1200# 3)hammock continuous loop failing below ITS yield @(1500#) at buckle turns around horn MIGHT derate to 900-1200# 4)strap failing due to multiple almost 90deg turns around buckle labyrinth @???must be determined through “instron” testing or equivalent

so my question is when you say 350# rating for beetle buckle/spider poly complete, PLEASE says which component above is actually failing – if you have another breakdown, please share – I am a structural engineer – would genuinely appreciate a complete answer – confidential is ok Totally understand – dutch has my email ( he got me set up in 2016/2017) many patient emails with my truly outstanding rig

    Question

    fjcortes5

When I select a spreader bar pole in the options, the site gives me two alternatives in pole size: .665 (currently out of stock) and .582 with a stated weight limit of 350 lbs. What does this weight limit refer to? What is the weight limit on the out of stock spreader bar? I am trying to buy this kit as a way to hang my own hammock alongside my wife’s Hennessy.

Sweet suspension, too easyThese are a little heavier /bulkier than my previous system (tree webbing with whoopie hooks on slings), but they are about as good as it gets for making set up and adjustments effortless. Using them with a spreader bar on the double dutch system. Compared to the whoopie slings, one major advantage is if your trees are pretty close together it’s no problem at all, they can tighten all the way; while the slings can only get so close the end because of the loop, you have to have about a foot or so of sling at each end.

InnovativeI got this suspension system plus some continuous loops for a Hennessey hammock. These straps are lighter, longer, and easier than the stock suspension. I recommend this suspension for any hammock though. I have used it on 3 different hammocks and it works perfectly.

Perfect!Ordered the 15′ Dyneema/Polypro suspension system with Beetle Buckles along with my Chameleon 1.6 hexan and loved it so much, I promptly ordered the same with sewn-on Dutch Clips for my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. Easy set up and simple adjustments but most importantly, I can now store my dew-covered suspension separate from my hammock.

I understand the weight limit if the beetle is 300#. Since there are 2 beetles in the system, if the 3000# straps are used, would the total Max weight capacity be 600#? Since I’m 330#, would I be ok with the spider poly strap/beetle setup? What about using soft shackles instead of clips?

the beetles combined with the spider/poly straps will give you a weight limit of 350lbs and this is what I would recommend for you. Using the 3000lb straps is ok but difficult to adjust. And to answer your other question no it will not double the weight limit.

I’ve used this suspension in a multitude of backpacking and camping situations. It has the capacity, convenience, and reliability matched with a light weight that puts it at an advantage over heavier strap systems and lightweight sling systems. I have set this up in the dark, snow, rain, and freezing rain with the confidence that my 275 lb frame and 30+ lbs of additional hammock and equipment will stay suspended for the night, and I have never been let down.

Why oh why did I wait so long to get this?

    rreidnauer (verified owner)

Holding the stock components from my Hennessy Hammock in one hand, and Dutchware’s Beetle Buckle (w/ sewn on Dutch clips) suspension system in the other, I can’t notice any appreciable difference in weight. What I do notice, however, is simply how much better every component of the system is. Easier/faster to secure and remove from the trees, easier/faster to adjust all aspects of the hammock, the simplicity of separating your suspension from the hammock if need be. After watching the videos of upgrading suspension, it was an absolute cinch to do myself. Just beautiful all around. No longer do I need to dread the setup and adjustment using the stock suspension system. It’s worth every cent, twice! I have a feeling I’ll be doing more hammock camping, with such a perfect setup now. Thanks Dutch!!

  16. Question

    j418089e

I must be a little confused. The notes in red and bold font indicate:
*Spider/Poly straps combined with the Beetle Buckles will have a weight limit of 250lbs*
*Polyester straps combined with the Beetle Buckle will have a weight limit of 300lbs

…but one of your answers to one of the questions was:
“The 3000lb straps will be the heaviest and the strongest as they have a breaking strength of 3000lbs. The polyester and the spider/poly both have a breaking strength of 1500lbs and the spider/poly will be the lightest straps available.”

I’m 6’5″ 260lbs. Would the spider/poly be OK even if I hang a 40-50 pack off my suspension?

No you would not be able to use the spider/poly straps as they have a weight limit of 250lbs. Then if you are wanting to put a pack on there too you will need to go with the polyester straps or to be on the safe side the 3000lb straps. (they have not been tested however I would not go above 350lbs with them and they will be a little stiffer to adjust with the beetle buckle)

I’m 260. I bought a used wide chameleon and need the suspension system. I have no prior knowledge of hammocking but the seller recommended beetle buckles. I’m also 20 minutes from the VA section of AT. I’d lean toward 350 limit just in case but what other options should I get. Length? Titanium v sew on dutch clip? What are the continuous loops?

Your Chameleon should have loops – one on each gathered end. Those are the continuous loops that hook onto the Beetle Buckle. Go for Spider/Poly straps, 15ft long. The Dutch Clips are really nice, but not completely necessary.

I weigh 270lbs. The polyester option says it is rated for 300lbs. I’m not a fan of being that close to a max weight but they are so much lighter then the 3000 lb option. Do you stand by the 300lb rating? I don’t want my suspension to fail on me while hanging, lol

If you are at 270 you should be perfectly fine with the polyester straps and beetle buckle combination. We do stand by our weight rating of 300lbs and I do not think that you will need to go up to the 3000lb webbing.

My first order from Dutchware. It won’t be my last. Best customer service experience. Of course I messed up the order but was able to email over the weekend prior to shipment. Little did I know I was actually chatting with Dutch who held the order until Monday. Carolyn double checked the order and fixed everything. Still got the order extremely fast the same week. I wasn’t expecting it after the mess I made. The product works great. Very smooth adjustments with some weight on the hammock. Very light weight. Just tested it out at home, look forward to using it on a section hike on the AT in April.

  23. Question

    Eric Poll

So I ordered a spreader bar set up from another vendor, (let’s start out here I am 356# and my wife is 250#) we bought the set up hooked it up and snapped the bars, in talking we ended up being sent new bars and a longer suspension, that was supposed to help, got everything set up, and had 20ft lead to the hammocks my wife laid in her hammock, and I put about half my weight and had the bars still bend, I was able to release tension on the bars so we didn’t have a second failure. I have reached back out to the vendor to get help or ideas as my wife and I hang together a good deal when we camp and would like to have a bit more space.
With your set up which set up would you suggest for the bars?
Also both the webbing and spider webbing have way higher ratings than 300&350 as stated in description, I am wondering why you limit to 300#& 350?
I know that the question has been asked but no answer can you help thank you…

Breaking strength is different from safe working load. The safe working load for the Beetle Buckle suspension is 300 pounds with the polyester straps and 350 pounds with the spider/poly straps. Our 32″ spreader bar poles have a 400 pound weight limit.

    Lee Bakewell (verified owner)

Works flawlessly with the thicker 1/8″ continuous loops, but install the loops so the thick part is inside the hammock channels. There’s no slippage at all, these things set up and adjust very easily and don’t move at all on you. Extremely light, even lighter than using 1/4″ poly rope w/o huggers. I wish they were solid black for stealth camping, since the straps stand out being white, but I’ll look into dying them black later. These things really are amazing, pure luxury when it comes to suspension, nothing compares.

RE: Diameter of Amsteel continuous loop- 7/64″ vs 1/8″.
How should I decide between these two diameter. I am 70kg/155lb. I use a Hennessy Hyperlight Asym Zip Hammock.
    Many thanks.

Either diameter of amsteel will work with the beetle buckle so that is not a problem. The 7/64 amsteel will be rated to hold about 600lbs once you are all set up so that will be plenty for you.

    Excellent Design

We love the Beatle Buckle suspension, it makes life so much easier to look for just 2 trees instead of looking for the right combination of 3 or 4 trees, my wife couldn’t be happier (happy wife, happy life). It takes a little getting used to but once you have it figured out, life is great. We use a spreader bar at each end to give a little more room and it works great. Not to mention you can pack the suspension separately which is priceless if you get any sap on the straps, thanks Dutch.

Yes the beetle buckle will work for this and fits either the 7/64 or 1/8 amsteel well.

    Excellent products

I purchased the Beetle buckles with the Dyneema/Poly strap , Dutch clips and Cls . I too converted a HH and am very happy with the results. Lighter weight, super adjustable and fantastically easy setup. Excellent Idea putting this together, perfect form and function. After I received the order confirmation I replied back with a color change request on one of the CLs. They got right on it and helped me out. Big +1 on CS!

    Thanks Dutch and crew

There is a slight difference because the loops for a Hennessey are longer.

    Best Suspension Ever

I love my new beetle buckle suspension for my Hennessy hammock! Not only is it super solid with zero slipping, but it saved me 1 lb by removing the stock suspension, tree straps, caribeaners, and rappel rings. It is easier to use as well. I always used to pull my hammock tight before, and now hang at the prescribed 30 degrees and the Hennessy lays fine that way. Not sure why everyone pulls them so tight. Once again, Dutch hits it out of the park!

    Great Product

Absolutely love this system. I waited for it to come out and I’m glad I did. Very easy to use. Love how I can take continuous loop off beetle buckle and then store straps and buckle separate from hammock. I like easy and light weight, that’s what this offers. Dutchware made the straps the length I wanted. Great customer service!

No, the Dyneema 2.0 webbing doesn’t work well with buckles.

  54. Question

    mrrodusa

Can you put 2 beetle buckles on the 15′ Spider/poly? 4 in total. That way I could loop around two trees and hang 2 hammocks off one set of tree straps. If so can I get longer straps than 15′.

I do not recommend this and I do recommend that you use separate suspension for each hammock so it will not put unnecessary tension on the straps.

hey dutch are the 3000 lbs tree straps supposed to be hard to move in the buckles? i just received mine today and i essentially have to separate the buckles completely to get it to move. didn’t know if they are tighter because they are beefier or if im doing something wrong. ive watched the video multiple times and i think im doing the same thing you are but they are really hard to move. thank you.

The .728 will hold more weight than the .665. You should be fine with the .665 as most people are.

Can you tell me the difference between polyester, spider/poly and 3000# webbing?
New to hammocking I’ve tried woopie sling and UCR even with 10 and 12″ Burrie. After about an hour in the hammock it would just drop. Did it 3 times in one night had to give up and pack it in. The beetle suspension looks like it wouldn’t slip.

spider/poly would be a good option for you as it will be the lightest option and works very well with buckles. We have no problem with any of these and slipping so it should eliminate that problem for you.
The 3000lb straps will be the heaviest and the strongest as they have a breaking strength of 3000lbs. The polyester and the spider/poly both have a breaking strength of 1500lbs and the spider/poly will be the lightest straps available.

Fairly easy to use, minor difficulty sliding the buckles along the straps

    cvenem01 (verified owner)

These took some getting used to the first time I tried them out. The buckles were tricky to slide along the straps. You really have to take all the weight off them to get them to move.
If I were to offer feedback, the tabs on them need to be a bit bigger to make it easier to get ahold of them when adjusting them.
I got them so I could have more adjustability in my hammock suspension and in that they work great. I just need more practice using them.
